AI Share of Voice (AI SOV)

AI Share of Voice is a metric that measures the percentage share of mentions of your brand relative to all brands mentioned in the same AI responses.

Value range

Percentage: 0% – 100%

  • 0% — your brand is not mentioned in any response
  • 100% — your brand is the only one mentioned in responses (rare)
  • Typical range for a market leader: 20–40%

AI SOV = (brand_mentions / all_mentions_across_all_responses) × 100

Cluster SOV

For thematic clusters, SOV is calculated as volume-weighted:

Cluster SOV = (brand_mentions_in_cluster / all_mentions_in_cluster) × 100

Example

A project has 5 prompts. Across all responses, there are 30 total brand mentions:

  • Your brand: 9 mentions
  • Competitor A: 12 mentions
  • Competitor B: 6 mentions
  • Other: 3 mentions
AI SOV = 9 / 30 × 100 = 30%

How do you increase AI SOV?

  1. Increase the number of mentions — build awareness and make AI cite your brand more often
  2. Analyze leaders — check snapshot views to understand why a competitor is mentioned more often
  3. Add prompts — more questions = more opportunities to appear

Note: SOV is a relative metric — an increase can come either from more mentions of your brand or fewer mentions of competitors.
